NEWS: OneSky named one of the world’s most inspiring education innovators
Global education non-profit, HundrED, releases its annual list of the 100 most impactful and scalable innovations in K12 education
With a mission to help improve education through impactful innovations, HundrED has honoured OneSky in its fourth annual Global Collection, a curated list of the 100 most impactful innovations in K12 education from around the world.
OneSky’s innovative blended learning approach, providing high-quality early childhood care and education for vulnerable young children across Asia, was one of the innovations recognized. OneSky was chosen due to its unique approach and its potential to create a sustainable impact in education. View our profile here.
HundrED’s goal is to inspire a movement by helping pedagogically sound, ambitious innovations spread and adapt to multiple contexts across the world. More than half of the selected innovations focus on developing social and emotional skills.
Over 5000 innovations were considered for this year’s Global Collection.
A shortlist of innovations was reviewed by 150 Academy Members consisting of academics, educators, innovators, funders, and leaders from over 50 countries. In total, 3,404 reviews by the Academy based on their impact and scalability were evaluated by HundrED’s Research Team to make the final selection.
Over the past 21 years, OneSky has developed an evidence-based blended learning approach to train adult caregivers of vulnerable young children – including early educators, child welfare workers, childcare providers, parents and grandparents – to provide high-quality Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). OneSky’s blended learning approach includes classroom training, hands-on mentoring by early childhood specialists, and online learning communities with on-going skills development.
Alice Wong, Chief Program Officer, Global at OneSky said: “During the COVID-19 pandemic, OneSky has continued to upskill the caregivers we have trained through a mobile-friendly online learning community called 1BigFamily, which offers digital pathways for on-going professional development. Our trainees could not only continue to learn despite pandemic restrictions – our online community also provided much needed emotional support.”
Saku Tuominen, Chairman & Creative Director of HundrED of HundrED, said: “Spreading innovations across borders can be a gamechanger for education, worldwide. We will continue to encourage as many stakeholders as possible including schools, educators, administrators, students, and organizations to get involved so that we can work towards a positive future.”
The HundrED 2021 Global Collection is available to download on the HundrED website at no cost. For easy sharing, all innovations are freely available on the HundrED website.
