VACCINATED: 50 Staff Safe at OneSky Early Learning Center in Vietnam
Vietnam’s commitment to prioritize teacher vaccinations ensures OneSky staff take a huge step towards safety from Covid-19.
Fifty staff members at OneSky’s Early Learning Center (ELC) in Da Nang, Vietnam were called for vaccinations as their city continued to fight the pandemic.
The invitation to staff had originally sparked hope that the ELC may be able to re-open. However, a spate of new cases and closures suggests preschool and childcare facilities will not re-open imminently.
Local schools have been closed since early May with the authorities eventually declaring the school year over.
OneSky’s ELC, however, was designed to serve the children of rural migrant workers and the need for safe affordable childcare continues beyond school terms.
According to a UNESCO survey of 150 countries in March 2021, Vietnam is one of 17 countries, including China, which has made teachers a vaccination priority.
It is a decision that has been welcomed by OneSky Vietnam Program Director Hien Vo.
She said: “For the children to be safe and for their families to be safe, we have to prioritize the safety of our teachers. They have given their time so selflessly throughout the pandemic and worked so hard — they very much deserve the peace of mind that today’s vaccinations will bring.”
